Joint-stock company Kyivstar is waiting explanations from the National Commission for Communications Regulation (NCCR) on the further operation of communications operators in Crimea, the company’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine on July 7.

Interfax-Ukraine asked the company to comment on the issue of allocating radio frequency bands in Crimea to Russia’s OJSC Vimpelcom.

“We don’t have valid data on the actions of the Russian authorities and we cannot comment on them. Kyivstar did not hold and is not holding any talks on the change of the existing operation procedure. We continue providing communications services in Crimea, despite the fact that we are suffering from force majeure caused by the impossibility of settling payments in the national currency with local contractors and leasers,” Kyivstar told Interfax-Ukraine.

As reported, according to extracts from the register of the Russian numeration plan as of July 1, 2014, Vimpelcom received 500,000 phone numbers with 978 code in Sevastopol and Crimea.

A source told Interfax that Vimpelcom received radio frequency bands in Crimea where Kyivstar operates under a decision of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies of Russia.

The meeting of the commission was held on July 4 behind closed doors.
