You're reading: Klitschko: ‘political tourists’ from Russia guilty of stoking tensions in east of Ukraine

Head of UDAR party and parliamentary faction Vitali Klitschko has said he suspects provocateurs from Russia and Russian media are escalating tensions in eastern Ukraine, organizing and conducting protest rallies in the eastern and southern regions.

“As of today, it looks very odd when the protestors standing for the
budget and power decentralization and more authority [for regions] do
all that with Russian flags,” Klitschko said on the air of “Shuster
LIVE” TV program on Friday night.

He said that he had seen “a lot of political tourists, who didn’t
conceal they had come from Russia” at a protest rally in Donetsk.

“A part of the people fell under the influence of the intensive
propaganda by Russian media. It’s not a coincidence that when that TV
[broadcasting tower] was taken over, the first thing they did was turn
off Ukrainian channels and turn on Russian ones. [People] are being
brainwashed,” the politician said.
