The United States is prepared to help to reform Kyiv, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland told capital's mayor Vitali Klitschko during a meeting.

Walking along Instytutska Street to the Maidan, Nuland congratulated Klitschko on his victory at the mayoral elections, UDAR party press service reported on June 10.

She said that today all branches of power and political forces in Ukraine should do their best to stabilize the situation in the country.

“She guaranteed that the United States is ready to render assistance to organize the reform of the capital,” the press service said.

Klitschko, in turn, said that today the Kyiv mayor has to receive the powers that will allow him to meet the expectations of Kyiv’s citizens and transform Kyiv into a modern European city.

And for this purpose, the posts of Kyiv mayor and head of Kyiv City State Administration should be combined. Klitschko said he hopes the president will take a decision on this issue.

During the meeting the parties discussed the domestic situation in Ukraine, prospects for the stabilization of the situation in the east, and possible parliamentary elections by the end of 2014.
