POLTAVA - The mayor of the city of Kharkiv, Hennadiy Kernes, told a court in Poltava on May 28 that the Ukrainian interior minister, Arseniy Avakov, was involved in the plot to kill him.

“Avakov is an unprofessional leader and he is driven by revenge… Avakov’s ears are sticking out in my murder attempt,” he said.

Kernes also thinks that both Avakov and Anton Heraschenko, a Ukrainian parliamentarian, falsified a case against him. “Avakov also uses the press for pressure,” the Kharkiv mayor said.
