You're reading: Kazakhstan delivers humanitarian aid for Donbas to Ukrainian authorities

Kazakhstan has delivered humanitarian aid to the regions in eastern Ukraine, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press service has reported.

On Jan.10, representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine received foodstuffs worth KZT 69.728 million, including tinned meat, sugar, buckwheat and vegetable oil, according to a Kazakh foreign ministry press release.

The delivery of the humanitarian aid took place in Severodonetsk in Luhansk region, in the presence of deputy heads of Luhansk regional state administration and international organizations such as ICRC, UNHCR, IRD and others.

Argin Ospanov, an advisor at the embassy of Kazakhstan in Ukraine, presented a certificate to Ukrainian representatives and noted that Ukraine was going through a difficult time, and Kazakhstan couldn’t turn away. According to an order from Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the humanitarian aid consisting solely of foodstuffs, was worth over $380,000 and was sent to Ukraine’s south-east regions which were in need, Ospanov added.

According to the press service of Ukraine’s Emergency Service, a total of 300 tonnes (6 wagons) of humanitarian aid for citizens in eastern Ukraine was sent from Kazakhstan.

According to First Deputy Head of the service Anatoliy Boiko, starting from the point when Ukrainian and Kazakh presidents agreed on the aid, the government agencies of both countries worked together on its delivery.

The aid will be partially distributed on liberated territories in Luhansk region. In addition, the issue of foodstuffs to Donetsk and Luhansk is being worked on, the Emergency Service’s press service reported.
