Kharkiv - Any kind of humanitarian aid for Donbas citizens must be given only upon Ukrainian government's consent, UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic has said.

When commenting on the readiness of the “second humanitarian aid” from Russia to enter Ukraine, Simonovic told reporters in Kharkiv that he completely supported the position that any kind of such an aid could enter Ukraine’s territory only upon Ukrainian government agencies’ consent. He also supported the idea that those trucks should be examined and escorted by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Simonovic stressed that humanitarian aid shouldn’t be used for any political purposes.

The provision of humanitarian aid must be completely depoliticized and mustn’t be used to achieve any political goals, and the main regulation principal must be the well-being of recipients of such aid, Simonovic said.

He also told of his plans to visit Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
