You're reading: Grenade fired at Lviv mayor’s house

LVIV,Ukraine – A grenade was fired at the house of Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy on Dec. 26, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry's branch in Lviv region Svitlana Dobrovolska said.

“According to preliminary data, a grenade was launched at about 20.45,” she said.

According to representatives of the City Council, Sadovy with the family was on vacation, and the house was empty at the time.

At a briefing in Lviv on Dec. 27, Sadovy said he doubted that the shelling of his house was connected with the activities of the parliamentary faction of the Samopomich Union (Sadovy is the leader of the Samopomich party).

The mayor said he did not know who was behind the shelling of his house.

Sadovy said that he had not received any threats in his address recently.

This is the second time Sadovy’s house is being fired at from a grenade launcher. A similar incident occurred on July 26, 2014. No one was hurt.

Criminal proceedings were launched as regards both cases under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist attack).
