You're reading: General Staff: Up to 10,000 Russian troops deployed in Donbas conflict zone

Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Viktor Muzhenko has said that, according to some estimates, up to 10,000 Russian servicemen have been deployed in the anti-terrorist operation area in eastern Ukraine. 

“There are some 6,000-8,000 servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation there, and according to some estimates, there are up to 10,000 people,” he said at a press briefing on Dec. 16.

Muzhenko said that about 50,000 Russian troops had been deployed along the entirety of the eastern Ukrainian-Russian border.
