Belarusian and Ukrainian experts in Minsk have discussed the situation in mutual trade, the head of the information department, the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Belarus, Dmitry Mironchik, has told Interfax-West.

“Today Belarusian and Ukrainian experts met in Minsk. The parties presented and discussed in detail the positions of each other. The work will be continued,” the official said.

As reported, the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade of Ukraine made the decision to impose special duties of 55.29 percent of the customs value on imports of some goods from Belarus. This will be applied to imports of Belarusian confectionery goods, dairy products, electric bulbs, fertilizers, and refrigerators. Ukraine also introduces a special duty of 60.05 percent on imports of Belarusian rubber tires, malt beer, as well as components for refrigeration equipment. The commission’s decision will enter into force ten days after publication, i.e. at the end of July, and will be valid until late 2016.

According to Ukraine’s Uriadovy Kurier government newspaper, the decision was made in response to “discriminatory and unfriendly actions against Ukrainian confectionery goods.” In particular, in May Belarus introduced licensing for imports of confectionery goods and beer.
