You're reading: European Commission proposes EU simplify visa regime for Ukraine

Brussels - EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom has sent letters to EU member states in which, in particular, she proposed promoting the maximum simplification of the visa regime with Ukraine.

She said in Brussels on Monday, June 16 at a seminar for journalists from neighboring countries on the EU’s visa policy that she had sent a letter before the conclusion had been made that it was possible to switch to the second phase of the action plan on visa liberalization, in which she noted that despite the fact that Ukraine is not on the list of countries eligible for the visa-free regime all opportunities offered by the EU Visa Code could be used to simplify the visa regime.

She noted that such steps on visa facilitation could be a reduction or cancellation of visa fees and the issuing of multiple-entry visas for a long term.

Malmstrom said that some countries had already made progress in this area.
