You're reading: European Comission will discuss key issues at Customs Union-Ukraine meeting in Minsk

 The European Commission (EC) will hold a meeting in Minsk on Aug. 26th involving the heads of state of the Customs Union and Ukraine discussions on the priorities of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the possibility of continuing trilateral talks on gas, starting from September, and security as a whole, European Commission spokesperson Chantal Hughes has said.

She said
at a briefing in Brussels on Aug.20 that the purpose of the gas section of
the meeting was unchanged, in particular, finding a solution to the gas dispute
due to the Ukrainian crisis and in the light of the EU Foreign Affairs Council
conclusions of Aug. 15th.

With
regard to security issues, Hughes said, The EC was concerned at the security situation in the country , especially in eastern
Ukraine.

The
European Commission said on Aug. 19th that European Commission President Jose
Manuel Barroso, who was invited to the meeting in Minsk by Russian and
Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko, had ordered EU
foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Vice-Chairman of the European Commission
and Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger and Commissioner for Trade Karel
De Gucht to represent the EU at the meeting.
