You're reading: EU, Ukraine to sign agreement on deployment of mission on civil security sector reform

BRUSSELS - EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin plan to sign an agreement on the deployment of a mission on the civil security sector reform in Ukraine.

A high-ranking European diplomat told reporters on Nov. 14 the document is expected to be signed in Brussels on Nov. 17.

The document is scheduled to be signed at 8.15 a.m. on Nov. 17 and after that the ministers will discuss the situation in Ukraine in the session of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, the diplomat said.

Another European diplomat said several EU officials are working on the issue of the mission’s deployment in Kyiv, but the work will only formally begin on Dec. 1.

According to earlier reports, the Council of the European Union made a decision to deploy the mission on July 22, 2014.

It will be an unarmed civil mission without executive powers in line with the general EU security and defense policies. EU advisers will support the work on revised security strategies and the reforms in coordination with the European Union, the OSCE and other international partners.
