Brussels - The European Union has promised to support Ukraine in addressing political and economic reforms in line with European standards, as well as resolving energy problems, according to the conclusions adopted at an EU summit on Friday, Oct. 24.

“Looking ahead to parliamentary elections on Oct. 26, the European Council reiterates its willingness to support Ukraine as it addresses political and economic reform, including in the energy sector, in line with the commitments both sides have made through the Association Agreement,” reads the document.

The statement notes that “the European Council welcomed the upcoming provisional application of the [EU-Ukraine] Association Agreement. It underlined the importance for the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the European Union to strictly abide by the commitments reflected in the Joint Ministerial Statement of Sept. 12.”
