The EU Foreign Affairs Council at its Monday meeting in Brussels has confirmed new restrictive measures for Crimea and Sevastopol.

“The council confirmed its agreement in principle with the High Representative’s proposal for additional EU restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. Technical discussions on the proposal are ongoing,” the EU press service said.

However, the press service failed to name what specific measures would be adopted by the EU.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in turn said that a final decision over the aforementioned measures could be taken by the end of the week.

Ukrainian Premier Arseniy Yatseniuk called for a ban on any kind of investment in Crimea.

“We ask for a ban on any investment activity by Russia. Secondly, we raised a question about Crimean Tatar people. According to our information, Russia roughly violates human rights in Crimea, Crimean Tatars are under constant pressure. And the third issue we considered was bringing Russia to legal account for its actions in Crimea,” he said.

As reported, after Crimea’s annexation, the European Union passed sanctions against Crimea, in particular, banning the import of goods from Crimea without the permission of the Ukrainian authorities, and on investment in some economic sectors, including transportation, energy and telecommunications.

Previously, Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU Kostiantyn Yeliseyev reported that Ukraine wants sanctions to be toughened due to the illegal annexation of Crimea.
