A Russian Emergency Situations Ministry convoy carrying humanitarian aid for residents of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine, which departed the Moscow region of Russia on Tuesday, should reach the Rostov region in the early hours of Thursday, says Oleg Voronov, a deputy chief of the Emergency Situations Ministry national crisis management center.
“The automobile convoy, which departed the Moscow region, has passed through the Voronezh region. After the some rest, refueling, and the technical inspection of the vehicles, it continued its movement. The automobile convoy is expected to reach the Rostov region in the early hours of Oct. 30,” Voronov told on Oct. 29, noting that the drivers are feeling well and that all the trucks are in service.
The convoy consisting of 100 trucks is carrying about 1,000 tonnes of cargo, including construction materials, foodstuffs, medicine, and equipment for preparations for winter.
Emergency Situations Ministry planes have also airlifted humanitarian cargo weighing about 100 tonnes to Rostov-on-Don to be reloaded onto trucks and delivered to southeastern Ukraine, Voronov said.
Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Stepanov had said earlier that, after the convoy reaches the Rostov region, its further actions would be coordinated with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Red Cross.
Russian Emergency Situations Ministry convoys should deliver up to 3,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the Luhansk and Donetsk regions this week.
This is the fourth Russian humanitarian convoy for southeastern Ukraine. The first three convoys delivered over 6,000 tonnes of cargo to Donetsk and Luhansk, including foodstuffs, medicines, power generators, warm clothes, bottled drinking water, and other items.
