The heads of the Prosecutor's Offices in Crimea and Sevastopol, who were appointed to these posts by Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika a few days ago, have been promoted to higher ranks, Russian Prosecutor General's Office spokesperson Marina Gridneva said on March 27.

“A decree signed by the prosecutor general of the Russian Federation grants the rank of senior counselor of justice to acting Prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya. Acting Sevastopol Prosecutor Igor Shevchenko is being promoted to the same rank,” Gridneva said.

Chaika signed a decree on March 25 to establish the Prosecutor’s Offices in Russia’s two new constituents – the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. Poklonskaya was appointed as Crimea’s acting prosecutor, and Shevchenko became the acting prosecutor of the city of Sevastopol.

On March 17, the Shevchenkivsky District Court of Kyiv ordered the detention of “the prosecutor of the self-proclaimed Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukrainian citizen N. Poklonskaya,” who is suspected by the Ukrainian authorities of “subverting the constitutional system and seizing state power.” Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have also put Poklonskaya on the most wanted list.
