The Crimean authorities expect a massive inflow of tourists to Crimea from China after the transportation to the peninsula improves and the political tensions caused by the reunion of Crimea and Russia decrease, Crimean Resorts and Tourism Minister Yelena Yurchenko said.

“As soon as the issues of transport logistics and political stability are resolved, we expect that the first people who will start coming here will be the Chinese,” Yurchenko said at a meeting of the Crimean parliament’s resorts and tourism commission in Simferopol on Thursday, Oct. 2.

The minister said Chinese tourists are already expressing an interest in vacations in Crimea.

“We are preparing to participate in the Shanghai exhibit in China on Nov. 7. If everything goes well, we will take part in the Taipei exhibit in Taiwan. We will not spend anything on that: they are inviting us, they want to see us,” Yurchenko said.

Yurchenko also said the Crimean Resorts and Tourism Ministry is working on proposals on vacations in Crimea targeted at Chinese people.

“Citizens of China are interested primarily in cultural and educational tourism,” the minister said.
