Ukrainian railways plan in 2015 to reach passenger turnover of 33,682 passenger-kilometers, which is 9,1% less than in 2014.

According to an explanatory note to the financial plan of Ukrainian railways for 2015, which has been posted on the website of the Infrastructure Ministry, passenger traffic on international routes is expected to reach 1,262 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 53,5% less than in 2014, due to a significant drop in passenger transit trains formed by the CIS countries as a result of the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine.

Domestic passenger traffic is projected at 16,062 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 10,2% less than in 2014 in connection with the cancellation of certain passenger trains in the direction of Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea, and their replacement with shorter routes.

Suburban passenger traffic is projected at 16,359 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 0.7% less than in 2014 due passengers using alternative types of transport.

The plan for 2015 foresees the carriage of 421,253 million passengers, which is less than in 2014 by 4,5%.

“Given the situation in the east of the country, the damaged infrastructure of Donetsk Railways and the annexation of Crimea, positive trends in the segment of passenger transportation by rail in 2015 are not observed,” the explanatory note said.
