You're reading: Council of Europe helps Ukraine to implement human rights strategy

Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe welcomed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's approval of the national human rights strategy for 2020, according to a CoE communique on Aug 26.

“The CoE plan for Ukraine corresponds with the strategy, including issues affecting the rights of internally displaced persons, freedom of the press, and other areas,” Jagland said.

He confirmed that the CoE is ready to continue helping Ukraine with its experience and resources. He also said that the plan would be of vital importance in ensuring stability in the country, finding solutions to the conflict, and increasing trust in the authorities.
