KHARKIV – The European Union will provide 1.7 million euro to Kharkiv Oblast to help internally displaced people, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn has said.

Hahn announced this at a briefing in Kharkiv on June 19.

The director of the Kharkiv Human Rights Group, a coordinator of the project with the EU, Yevhen Zakharov, told Interfax-Ukraine, the project is designed for eight months. It envisages the provision of aid to displaced people by government agencies (health care, social protection, as well as the planned purchase of five tent houses for 20 people each by the State Emergencies Service). In addition, the project foresees funding for three volunteer organizations engaged in helping refugees and the Kharkiv Human Rights Group, which provides legal assistance to displaced persons.
