Negotiations conducted by the contact group on settling the situation in eastern Ukraine will start at 4 p.m. in Minsk, deputy head of the presidential administration Valeriy Chaly has said.

“I’ve just talked to the representatives that went to Minsk. They are already prepared and are planning to start the long-delayed meeting of the trilateral group at around 4 p.m. in Minsk,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Dec. 24 and specified that the meeting was to start at 4 p.m., Kyiv time.

According to Chaly, Ukraine is represented by the second President Leonid Kuchma. Issues connected to freeing captives, observance of the ceasefire and withdrawal from the line of contact, which is clearly defined in the Minsk memorandum, will be discussed at the meeting.

“Ukraine will never withdraw from the Minsk agreements,” Chaly noted.

He also said that another meeting of the trilateral group might be held on Friday, Dec. 26.
