You're reading: Central Election Commission registers 656 more candidates in majority constituencies

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered 656 more candidates for the early parliamentary elections in majority constituencies.

At its Monday sitting on Sept. 29, the CEC registered 253 candidates nominated by 12 parties and 403 self-nominated candidates in majority constituencies.

Thus, 35 candidates were registered from Svoboda party, including incumbent MP Eduard Leonov (district 6, Sumy region) and Deputy Infrastructure Minister Andriy Bondarenko (district 36, Dnipropetrovsk region).

Six candidates were registered from the Internet Party of Ukraine; all of them are named Darth Vader, although their patronymic names are different.

Besides, in majority constituencies, CEC registered 105 candidates from Opposition Bloc. 39 – from the Liberal Party of Ukraine, 10 – from the Right Sector, 37 – from Zastup all-Ukrainian Agrarian Union, 7 – from the Solidarity of Women of Ukraine party, 5 – from Ukrainian People’s Party, 3 from both Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists and Volya party, 2 – from the Party of Greens of Ukraine and 1 – from the Patriotic Party of Ukraine.

CEC also registered 403 self-nominated candidates, including, in Donetsk region: Chairman of Donetsk Regional State Administration Serhiy Taruta (district 58, Mariupol), incumbent MPs Ihor Kaletnik (district 41, Donetsk) and Yevhen Heller (district 50, Krasnoarmiysk) as well as former MP Valeriy Konovaliuk (district 59); and in Luhansk region – former MP Volodymyr Landik (district 112).

In addition, current MPs Oleksandr Onyschenko (district 93, Kyiv region), (district 183, Kherson region), Viktor Zherebniuk (district 14, Vinnytsia region) and astronaut Leonid Kadeniuk (district 205, Chernihiv region) were registered as well.

Thus, as of Sept. 30, CEC has registered a total of 3,148 candidates at parliamentary elections in majority constituencies, 1,780 of them are self-nominated and 1,368 – nominated by parties.
