You're reading: Central Election Commission denies extra funding for early parliamentary elections

The Verkhovna Rada has voted against an increase in the Central Election Commission's spending on the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

The bill was voted for by just 184 members out of the 312 registered in the session hall.

Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak proposed an almost 964-million
hryvnia increase in the commission’s spending on the early parliamentary
elections, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent said.

“Here is our final proposal to you: to finance the early elections of
people’s deputies with Hr 963.9 million of state capital expenditure,”
Shlapak said, while proposing changes to the Ukrainian law on Ukraine’s
state budget for 2014, involving an increase in funding for the 2014
early parliamentary elections.
