The inclusion of volunteer battalions in military brigades would be an optimal way to ensure their efficient operation, says Ukrainian presidential chief of staff Borys Lozhkin.

“Perhaps an optimal decision would be to make these battalions part of military brigades. Possibly assault battalions inside military brigades. Then they would become normal military units as concerns discipline, military training, and equipment. This process has already been started,” Lozhkin said in an interview published in the Dec.17 issue of the Ukrainska Pravda web publication.

Asked about the future of the battalions financed by tycoons, which a journalist branded as similar to private armies, Lozhkin said,” There should be no private armies in the country, certainly. Once again: all battalions that are capable and efficient must become part of military brigades. Period. There cannot be, should not be, and will not be any private armies in the country. This is the president’ s firm position.”
