Employees of Ukraine's State Guard Department have established a battalion that may join the anti-terrorist operation in the country's eastern regions, the press service of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has reported.

“Elite bodyguards from the State Guard Department of Ukraine who have guarded the state’s high-ranking officials have set up the Shield Special Operations Battalion,” it said.

The new unit is expected to carry out special operations in the conflict-stricken districts of eastern Ukraine. Most soldiers in this battalion were previously involved in different missions in these regions.
