You're reading: Belarusian foreign minister discusses ways to settle Donbas conflict with ex-Ukrainian President Kuchma

Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei met on Wednesday with former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and Ukrainian presidential advisor Ruslan Demchenko, who arrived in Minsk to take part in negotiations of the Trilateral Contact Group for settling the conflict in Donbas.

“The parties discussed the current state of affairs in the conflict zone and its influence on the regional and global international situation,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Makei, Kuchma and Demchenko had a substantive exchange of opinions on the negotiating process and on ways to settle the conflict based on the Minsk agreements as soon as possible, it said.

Kuchma’s press secretary Darya Olifer said on Facebook that the parties addressed “the organizational aspects of the Trilateral Contact Group’s work.”

The Trilateral Contact Group is holding a regular meeting in Minsk on Aug.26.
