Russia's "humanitarian aid" to militant controlled regions in eastern Ukraine contained expired food, Spokesman of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Andriy Lysenko has said.

“According to the investigative information, humanitarian aid widely advertised by Russian media, and allegedly intended for the people of [the so-called] Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), is being presented only to the leaders of this terrorist organization. Even not all the low-ranking terrorists receive it,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv.

Lysenko noted that tinned meat and grits were almost expired, while infant’s food, personal hygiene products and household chemicals were already expired.

As reported, the ninth convoy with the Russian “humanitarian aid” crossed Ukrainian border on Dec. 12. Over 50 trucks went to Donetsk, and over 80 – to Luhansk. According to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, the trucks brought over 1,200 tonnes of humanitarian aid including mainly food and power-generation facilities.

The Ukrainian customs officers sent to Russia to check the “humanitarian convoy” were only allowed to count the number of trucks, without an actual examination of their content.
