Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk discussed the situation in Ukraine and the world community's role in dealing with the military threat with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee on Sept. 8.

The Ukrainian prime minister and the AJC delegates expressed similar views on the situation and emphasized the need to step up the world community’s efforts to ward off the military threat, the Ukrainian government’s press service reported.

The American Jewish Committee’s Executive Director David Harris said that Ukraine is in need of a Second Front – a global front of the progressive international solidarity with the Ukrainian people who are fighting for their freedom and independence. He also highly appraised the Ukrainian government’s efforts to combat all forms of xenophobia, racism and anti-Semitism.

Attempts to destabilize ethnic peace in Ukraine, inspired from outside, will never be accepted by Ukrainians and will be instantly rebuffed, Yatseniuk said.

The American Jewish Committee is one of the oldest Jewish organizations in the United States. It was set up in 1906 after Jewish pogroms in the Russian empire to provide aid to the victims and to defend the freedom of emigration to the United States. Richard Sideman is the organization’s president and David Harris executive director.
