Kharkiv – The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has agreed to the creation of another territorial-defense battalion in Kharkiv region, said Vasyl Khoma, deputy head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration.

“We have received a letter from the Defense Ministry allowing us to form another territorial-defense battalion on a voluntary basis. The objectives of this battalion will be to fortify the border, to strengthen it, to protect crucial facilities within the city and to organize checkpoints, roadblocks and fortified positions along the perimeter of Kharkiv,” Khoma told reporters on Thursday, Sep. 18.

The 22nd territorial-defense battalion set up in the region earlier is to be re-deployed to the Kharkiv region in the very near future, he also said.

“The 22nd battalion will be re-deployed to the territory of the 92nd brigade. These will be here for re-arming, operational coordination and training,” Khoma said.

The 22nd separate Kharkiv territorial-defense battalion was formed in the spring of 2014. It was sent to Luhansk region for a mission as part of the anti-terrorist operation.
