You're reading: Agriculture Ministry sees no need to import raw sugar in 2014/2015

Ukraine's Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food has stated there is no need to import raw sugar in the current 2014/2015 marketing year.

According to the press service of the ministry, as of Oct. 24 sugar mills had produced one million tonnes of sugar, which is 2.5 times more than on the same date of 2013. Sugar ending stocks as of Sept. 1, 2014 amounted to 344,000 tonnes.

The ministry expects the gross production of sugar beets to reach 14-15 million tonnes, estimates sugar production in the current marketing year at 1.7-1.75 million tonnes.

According to balance calculations, the need of the domestic market for the 2014/2015 MY is 1.684 million tonnes (excluding the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).

“Thus, the resources of own beet sugar for the period of the 2014/2015 marketing year fully satisfy the need of the internal market and create export potential,” the ministry said.
