About 15,000 cars of state wagon companies are currently blocked on Donetsk Railways, including more than 8,000 cars of the working rolling stock, the press service of State Railways Administration of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“There was also a significant decline in industrial production, which leads to a reduction in traffic volumes,” the press service said.

Thus, the lowest cargo turnover on the railways, which began to plummet from June this year, was recorded in September, and compared to September last year reached a fall of 79.5 percent, in particular transit cargo turnover was down by 99.9 percent, that of exported cargo – by 81.4 percent, imported goods – by 75.6 percent, local traffic – by 83.7 percent.

Ukrzaliznytsia notes that in connection with the situation in Donbas many shippers refuse transportation on the territory of Donetsk Railways.

Cargo loading on the railways in September decreased by 68.6 percent compared to September last year, as a result the drop in freight traffic on the railways for the ten months of 2014 compared to the same period of last year was 27 percent, in particular transit freight traffic – by 46.3 percent, exported goods – by 30.6 percent, imported cargo – by 31.6 percent, local traffic – by 28.7 percent.
