Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Valeria Lutkovska has made arrangements with Program Coordinator of Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Ukraine affiliated to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey Haci Bayram Bolat to provide technical assistance for Ukrainian military hospitals, in which participants of the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine are being treated.
“In addition to this important direction of our cooperation, an arrangement has been reached with the Turkish agency regarding cooperation in the restoration of social infrastructure in areas of Luhansk and Donetsk regions liberated from terrorists, particularly in cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. First of all, it’s about restoration of kindergartens, schools, health care facilities, etc.,” ombudswoman’s press service quoted Lutkovska on Sept. 1.
According to her, during the conversation, a representative of Turkish agency expressed readiness to give technical assistance to military hospitals in Ukraine, particularly by providing them with modern medical equipment.
He also told about the operation of TIKA in Ukraine, which started in 1997, with the signing of a memorandum between Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and Turkish government coordinating the list of projects of technical and financial cooperation.
Particularly, it involves realization of such projects as purchasing accommodation for Crimean Tatars, ensuring water supply for south regions of Ukraine, development of infrastructure of education establishments, cooperation with “Children of Chernobyl for Survival” international foundation and others.
In conclusion, the countries agreed to initiate cooperation of ombudsmen’s offices in Ukraine and Turkey, as important institutions involved in the process of extension of bilateral cooperation and cooperation between counties of Black Sea region.
