You're reading: Myron Markevich signs three-year deal to coach Dnipro

Myron Markevich agreed to a three-year contract on May 26 to coach Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, the club’s press service said. He will be joined by assistants Oleksandr Ivanov, Vyacheslav Khruslov, and goalkeeper coach Valeriy Gorodov and fitness coach Pavlo Sirenko.

He replaces Spaniard Juande Ramos who
rejected a contract renewal on May 22. He had coached Dnipro since 2010.
According to Itar-Tass, his family’s desire to leave the country rocked by an
ongoing political crisis was behind the decision to depart.

Markevich, 63, resigned as head coach of
Metalist Kharkiv in February. His profile on the website of UEFA, Europe’s top
soccer governing body, says he started his career as a midfielder with Karpaty
Lviv. After two seasons he went on to represent SKA
Lviv and Spartak Ordzhnikidze before finishing as player-coach at Torpedo Lutsk.

He is known as “a keen
student of coaching,” according to UEFA, having made trips to study under Fabio
Capello, Christoph Daum and Carlo Ancelotti.

Dnipro is controlled by
billionaire Igor Kolomoisky who is currently the governor of Dnipropetrovsk
Oblast.
