FIBA Europe will make a decision on the future of 2015 European Basketball Tournament among men's national teams in Ukraine in the first half of June.

“President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Oleksandr Volkov
managed to persuade leadership of FIBA Europe not to take EuroBasket
2015 from Ukraine. There was a meeting of the General Assembly of FIBA
Europe and discussion of Ukrainian issue. Volkov suggested waiting for
the new FIBA board to be elected, waiting for the results of Ukraine’s
presidential elections and after this analyzing the stage of tournament
preparation, security issues, development of the internal political and
the economic situation in Ukraine, and then making a decision,” Director
of the EuroBasket 2015 tournament Markiyan Lubkivsky told
Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

“This decision shows FIBA Europe’s huge confidence in Ukraine and
trust in the success of the project. Now Ukraine must show devotion to
this project,” he said.

According to the press service of the Basketball Federation of
Ukraine, the elections of the new president and new Board of FIBA Europe
are to be held on May 17.

“A decision on the future of EuroBasket 2015 will be made at the
meeting of FIBA Europe Board by its new members in the first half of
June,” reads the statement.
