Washington - U.S. President Barack Obama is planning to sign by the end of the week a new bill imposing further sanctions on Russia and providing military assistance to Ukraine, White House press secretary Josh Earnest has said.

He said that the president intended to sign the bill approved by the Congress.

Earnest said earlier that the U.S. administration continued to study the bill submitted by the U.S. Congress.

Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner also called on the U.S. president to sign the legislation.

“On behalf of the people’s House, I urge President Obama to sign this bipartisan legislation immediately,” he said in a statement on Dec. 15.
