You're reading: Over 70 percent of Russians are ready to vote for Putin in presidential elections – poll

MOSCOW - The electoral rating of Russian President Vladimir Putin has increased by 26 percent points since January (from 46 percent in January to 72 percent in November), the Public Opinion Foundation said.

In a survey of 3,000 respondents conducted in 204 populated areas in 64 regions of Russia on Nov. 8-9, sociologists asked the respondents which politicians they would vote for if the presidential elections were held next coming Sunday. Most respondents

(72 percent) said they would vote for Putin (against 70 percent in August).

Five percent of the respondents said they would vote for Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, 4 percent said they would vote for Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, and 1 percent said they would support businessman Mikhail Prokhorov. Seven percent of the respondents were undecided and 10 percent said they would not vote at all.

The survey shows that 84 percent of the respondents trust Putin, 13 percent do not trust him, and 3 percent are undecided.

Russians continue to give high marks to Putin’s performance as president. Eighty-three percent of the respondents said Putin is working well in his post (against 83 percent in September and October). Nine percent give negative marks to his performance (against 10 percent in September and October) and 7 percent are undecided.
