Moscow - Estonian citizen Eston Kohver, who was arrested by the Russian special services on suspicion of espionage, says he is not guilty, a source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax on Sept. 8.

“The man denies guilt,” the source said.

The source that, in addition to espionage (a crime enshrined by Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code), Kohver is also charged with illegally crossing the border (a crime enshrined by Article 322 of the Russian Criminal Code) and illegal weapons transportation (Article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code).

According to the case materials, Kohver had accomplices and for that reason “new detentions are possible,” the source said.

In September, the public relations center of the Russian Federal Security Service said Estonian security officer Eston Kohver was detained in the Pskov region on suspicion of being a spy.

“Eston Kohver, an employee of the Estonian Interior Ministry’s security police department, has been detained on the territory of the Russian Federation. A Taurus pistol with cartridges, 5,000 euros, special equipment for hidden audio recording, and materials that appear to be related to an espionage assignment were confiscated from the man,” the public relations center of the Russian Federal Security Service said.
