You're reading: Canadian ambassador says Ukraine should itself choose own vector of integration

Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Roman Waschuk has commented on a statement by Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov that Russia needs guarantees of Ukraine's non-accession to NATO.

“Ukraine should itself choose the structure of foreign integration,” he wrote on Twitter late on Nov. 19.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with the BBC that Russia needed a 100% guarantee that no one would think about Ukraine’s joining NATO.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, in turn, said that Ukraine was a sovereign state and that it would itself decide whether or not to join NATO.
