Tbilisi – Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn is confident that Georgia's experience could help the country in its efforts to become energy independent.

“Recently Georgia passed the way foreseeing energy and political independence. The process is going on in Ukraine,” Demchyshyn told reporters after a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister of Georgia Kakha Kaladze in Kyiv on Jan. 31.

The Ukrainian minister said that the situation in the oil and gas sector and other issues were discussed at the meeting.

“We’re working on different directions now. We’re trying to form a competitive environment in energy and modernize this sector,” Demchyshyn said, adding that cooperation with Georgia will continue.

The Georgian energy minister assured his Ukrainian counterpart in all possible support in settling the tasks the sector is facing now.

“The meeting was very interesting. We agreed that the reforms in the energy sector conducted and being conducted in Georgia could be used by Ukraine,” Kaladze said.

He said that bilateral meetings are scheduled for the future.

“Our next meeting will be held in Georgia, maybe, in summer when the situation in Ukraine could be relatively settled,” the Georgian minister added.
