Ukraine and Japan have signed the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement in Kyiv on Feb. 5.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported that Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi and Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius signed the agreement.

“The agreement was reached by our presidents in October 2014. The agreement is aimed at protecting investors of the two countries,” Abromavicius said.

He said that the agreement envisages guarantees and protection from illegal restructuring and nationalization of assets and application of international procedures in dispute settlement.

“In March 2014 Japan announced that the country will provide over $1.8 billion to Ukraine. The sum includes budget support, support of projects, financial aid and technical cooperation. We’ll continue this support,” the Japanese ambassador said.

He said that the agreement is to open a way to Japan’s investment to Ukraine.

Abromavicius said that the agreement is a signal to investors that they are projected at the international level. It is planned that transparency of investment climate will be increased.
