The budget support of the banking system via the Individuals' Deposit Guarantee Fund and capitalization of banks in 2014 came to Hr 27 billion and this year it could be increased to Hr 56 billion and more, Deputy Finance Minister Vitaliy Lysovenko has said.

“The minimum sum of Hr56 billion is this year target. It could be increased, but we hope that it will be retained,” he said in the parliament on Feb. 18.

Lysovenko said that in the crisis period it is important to create an island of stability and trust in the banking system.

“The state remains closely to [the banking] sector: we our aid is required we are ready to lend our shoulder,” he said, adding that international partners also provide large support.

He also said that the government is working on optimizing the number of state banks and increasing their efficiency as much as possible.
