The devaluation of the hryvnia in the past days to Hr 14.50-15/$1 is caused by war risks and panic of the public, while the economically justifiable level of the national currency is within Hr 12.50-12.90/$1, Finance Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Shlapak has said.

“The main person responsible for this is war and those who unleashed it. We should be calm. Panic is dangerous for the state and for each citizen,” he said on the Ukraina television channel last week.

Shlapak said that Ukraine’s balance of foreign trade had surplus with the hryvnia exchange rate of up to Hr 13/$1.

The minister said that the National Bank of Ukraine is responsible for the situation on the currency market to a certain extent, although this is the joint responsibly of the government.
