Coal stocks at Ukraine's thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat power plants (CHPPs) in August 2014 decreased by 31.2 percent or 968,500 tonnes and by Sep. 1, 2014 totaled 2.138 million tonnes, a source in the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

A total of 1.464 million tonnes of gas coal was left (1.372 million tonnes as of August 1, 2014) and 674,200 tonnes of anthracite coal (1.735 million tonnes as of Aug. 1, 2014).

Fuel oil stocks at the warehouses of power plants fell by 0.6 percent  or 600 tonnes, to 106,900 tonnes.

Coal stocks at warehouses of power plants as of Sep. 1, 2014 were 54.3 percent  less than year-over-year (4.676 million tonnes) and fuel oil – 8.6 percent  less (116,900 tonnes).

Natural gas consumption by power plants in Aug. 2014 amounted to 115.1 million cubic meters, against 135.5 million cubic meters in July 2014 and 163.6 million cubic meters in August 2013.

Ending stocks of coal at warehouses of consumers and supplies of Ukraine in Aug. 2014 grew by 2.1 percent  or 95,900 tonnes, reaching 4.592 million tonnes as of September 1, 2014.

As reported, due to the decline in coal extraction in Donetsk and Luhansk regions and problems with delivery of coal due to destroy of railways Ukraine is mulling imports of steam coal.
