You're reading: Mogherini says EU’s association agreements with Moldova, Georgia to take effect on June 1

CHISINAU - The European Union's association agreements with Moldova and Georgia will fully take effect on July 1, 2016, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration quoted EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President, Federica Mogherini, as saying at the Eastern Partnership's 7th ministerial meeting in Brussels on May 23.

Taking part in the meeting were the foreign ministers of the EU and European Partnership countries and also European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn Speaking at the meeting, Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur underscored “the necessity of strengthening cooperation with Eastern partners in the context of a complicated regional situation, and internal and external risks.”

While visiting Brussels, Galbur also took part in a working meeting in a limited format between the Eastern Partnership foreign ministers and Hahn, particularly to discuss regional security.

“In addition, the meeting served as a good opportunity for exchanging opinions between the EU member-states and the six European Partnership states to identify more opportunities for the member-states to be involved in the Eastern Partnership initiatives and projects,” the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said.
