MINSK - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has declared the need to maintain peace in the republic amid instability in a number of states.

“The situation is extremely complicated. We should maintain tranquility and peace in our country at any cost,” the BelTA news agency quoted Lukashenko as saying at a meeting with State Security Committee Chairman Valery Vakulchik.

The president said he was concerned about the situation taking shape around Belarus.

“Thanks God, we have been able to deter various kinds of negative manifestations for now. Whenever such things happen, we can see them. But what is happening around us, in Ukraine, in addition to the latest decisions of the North Atlantic alliance […] We have seen that in Turkey, there are problems in Armenia and in Kazakhstan,” the president said.
