You're reading: Financial Times: ‘State-sponsored actor’ stole data from 500 million Yahoo users

A "state-sponsored actor" stole names, email addresses and some security information from more than 500 million Yahoo accounts, the internet company said on Sept. 22, in the biggest known data breach to date.

The disclosure of the theft, two years ago, comes as Yahoo finalises the sale of its core internet business to Verizon, the communications group, for $4.8 billion.
