Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has met with businessman Rinat Akhmetov as part of the monitoring of large corporations' performance, and a reduction in forex receipts by Akhmetov's companies was on the agenda of the meeting, according to Yatsenyuk's press secretary Olha Lappo.

“This was one of the numerous, scheduled meetings held by the prime minister with owners, heads and managers of companies – both in the state and private sectors – as part of the regular monitoring by the Cabinet of the performance of large enterprises, which create jobs, pay taxes and earn revenue in foreign currency,” she wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

Yatsenyuk, as the head of government, was concerned by a reduction in receipts in foreign currency by companies, including those owned by Akhmetov, which may trigger a decline in the payment of taxes to the national budget, Lappo wrote.

“The prime minister got the explanations that the decrease in the amount of forex receipts was connected with a steep decline in prices of produce exported by the companies related to Akhmetov, namely metals and ores to the foreign markets,” Lappo wrote.

Yatsenyuk and Akhmetov also discussed measures to facilitate exports, she wrote.

“As a result of this discussion, the head of government has scheduled a meeting with the largest exporters to take measures to boost exports, the country’s forex receipts, maintain jobs and keep the currency stable,” she said.

Some Ukrainian media reported earlier that Akhmetov had spent more than two hours at the Cabinet on Maarch 24 evening.
