The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has arrested a militant from the self-proclaimed Donbas People's Republic (DPR), who attempted to enter the territory controlled by Kyiv, at the Mayorsk checkpoint in the anti-terrorist operation zone in Donbas.

“During the inspection of his personal belongings, law enforcement officials seized his Ukrainian passport, identification code, mobile phone, laptop, two transceivers and an identification document of his involvement in one of the organized groups,” the SBU press service said.

The arrested individual was informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 258-3 (“Organization of a terrorist group or terrorist organization”) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code and a restrictive measure in the form of placement into custody was imposed on him.

According to the SBU, the detained individual voluntarily joined militants and convoyed humanitarian goods from Russia. Subsequently he was appointed deputy commander of special forces troops in one of unlawful armed units and participated in hostilities near Donetsk airport and Maryinka. He also worked in the security services of the so-called DPR Prosecutor General’s Office.
