You're reading: Sajdik says Red Cross may become effective mediator in release of captives, coordination of detainee lists

The subgroup on humanitarian matters of the Contact Group on Ukraine deems the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mediation in the issue of releasing the captives in Donbas necessary, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Special Envoy Martin Sajdik told journalists in Minsk on Aug. 3.

Sajdik said that the humanitarian subgroup had voiced its opinion that the ICRC could become an effective mediator in the issue of freeing people, who had been captured in Donbas and had gone missing. He said that there has been an understanding that this would facilitate a more objective assessment on the scale of the problem by both sides.

Sajdik also said that each side had had its own lists of captives. He said wondering who had been coordinating these lists.
