You're reading: Religious procession near Kyiv comes to halt again over suspicious object

Explosives' experts have discovered a suspicious object in Kyiv's Sviatoshynsky district along Zhytomyr highway on the route of the religious procession organized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the column has come to a halt.

Interfax-Ukraine was told at the press service of the national police of Kyiv region that experts with trained dogs discovered a suspicious object along the route of the procession due to which the procession was suspended.

Explosives experts are working at the scene to clarify the type of the object is and to prevent any irregularities.

Earlier Hromadske TV reported that experts discovered a suspicious object in a café a kilometer outside of Stoyanka village on the highway.

As for the previous suspicious object, it turned out to be a cardboard box with two pieces of soap, the TV company was told at the police.

Earlier the police launched criminal proceedings in relation to the discovery and destruction of fake explosive devices and two caches with combat grenades and TNT blocks along the route of the procession.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced that the National Guard and police would prevent marchers from continuing their procession through Kyiv after the discovery of military hand grenades and a fake mine.
